University of Limerick sports arena is located on the outskirts of Limerick, West coast of Ireland.

There is an Olympic sized 50 metre pool, outdoor 3G pitches and a 3300 square metre arena that can be used for basketball & material arts and has a 60 metre indoor sprint track and three lane 225 metre jogging track. The arena can hold 1,500 spectators.

We also find the staff extremely helpful and courteous. The University Arena is in an excellent location for sport and is serviced well in terms of transport.”

Training Facilities



8 lane, 400 metre track suitable for all Track and Field disciplines. 

Plus Indoor sprint and jogging tracks as described in the Sports Hall section



The National 50m Swimming Pool is Ireland’s first Olympic sized pool.
10 lane, 50 metre x 25 metre, allowing for long and short course training / competition, and has an adjustable floor at the shallow end, so the depth can be changed to suit the particular activity.

Swimming clubs from all over Ireland and abroad (including the Dutch and GB Olympic squads, Villanova and Notre Dame Universities from the U.S) have trained here.

Suitable for Water Polo

Outdoor Pitches


Two full size pitches meet with FIFA specifications and have been approved by FAI for competitive matches. Both pitches can also be subdivided into 5 x 7-a side pitches.

The IRB accredited Rugby Pitch is suitable for training and matches for both Rugby Union and Rugby League. The pitch has a cushioned shock pad under layer that reduces the risk of injury and also reduces head impact. Regular users are Munster Rugby

One full size pitch to competitiion standard

All Weather Pitches:
This multi-purpose fully floodlit all weather synthetic grass park contains two full size 3rd Generation soccer pitches, one full size 3rd Generation rugby pitch and a full size 3G GAA pitch. This is the largest artificial grass development in Ireland to date designed to IRB, GAA and FIFA specifica¬tions.

The 3G All Weather surface plays like natural grass and is designed for full contact. Each full size pitch can be sub-divided to create smaller sized playing areas. Player comfort is a priority and this synthetic surface is unlike most others as it eliminates carpet burn and reduces the risk of injuries caused by the other hard or uneven surfaces.

Basketball: 4 Full Sized basketball Courts to FIBA court regulations with Maple sprung floor and Daktronics scoreboard 

Volleyball: 2 volleyball courts, Senoh volleyball net systems, Official Stands & Padding 

Athletics: 3 lane 60m Indoor Sprint Track with Prestige Rubber Sports Surface AND a 3 lane 225m Indoor Jogging Track



The UL Sport Health and Performance Centre.

With over a hundred pieces of equipment, the Arena’s Cardio-Fitness Centre is one of the largest and most comprehensive gyms in Ireland. It is well equipped to deal with the needs of all elite sports. Team Fitness Testing can also be arranged with the Centre’s fully trained staff.



National Strength and Conditioning Centre.

This is the home for the National Strength and Conditioning Centre (NSCC). It is an exclusive training area equipped with functional and specialised equipment, and is over seen by expert and qualified personal.

The University of Limerick’s many training facilities offer this venue as an ideal location for your club or International Federation’s training camp.

Accommodation can be at the University during out of term times or at one of the many hotels near-by. Meals can also be arranged as part of your training camp package.

In addition to the training facilities, there are other optional extras which can be included such as ice baths, classrooms etc.
