The swimming facility is a regular venue for competitions and hosts the annual International Swimming Meet of Loulé that attracts some of the finest swimmers in the world.

Both the football and rugby facilities have been used by National and International teams. Germany used this venue pre Euro 2004, and Rugby Federations have also used the rugby facility in preparation for 7-a-side tournaments.

Loulé has both Roman and Moorish influences in its architecture. It is close to Faro airport and the beaches on the south coast, Vilamoura being reasonable near-by.
