Nicosia is a buoyant city with both Cypriot and Turkish influences. Apart from being Cyprus's capital, Nicosia is also the island's financial capital and main international business centre.

Nicosia has been inhabited since before 2,500 BC and is steeped in ancient history, from the Trojan Wars through Roman and Byzantine periods, the Crusades and the Ottomans.

Because of the city's financial status, there are many hotels, cafes and bars. The hotels cater for all types of budgets.
