Gavin Smith

Summary

Gavin is an experienced coach who has worked with athletes at all levels of his sport. He gained international experience working as Renato Canova's assistant in Kenya and was instrumental in the preparation of Kenyan Elite runners for major international competitions.

Gavin, who now lives in the UK, where he coaches recreational, ambitious club and through to Elite runners. He also runs Elite Running Coach which is an on-line coaching service offering various training plans.

Some of the runners Gavin has previously coached include Abel Kirui (Olympic Silver 2012, 2x World Champion 2009 & 2011), Florence Kiplagat (Berlin Marathon Winner 2011 & 2013 and current WR Half Marathon), Gladys Kipkemoi (2013 IAAF World Championships) and Brillian Kipkoech (2012 IAAF World Junior Championships for the Kenyan National Team).

In 2007 Gavin graduated from Loughborough University with a degree in Sport and Exercise. His coaching skills and enthusiasm have been recognised by the National Federation in the UK and he is a part of the governing bodies bespoke coach support and education program – National Coach Development Program. 

Through his company Elite Running Coach, Gavin offers Full Coaching plans and 12 week training programs.
Full Coaching Plans include;
Comprehensive running coaching comprising of a weekly personal training program and email feedback support
Personal training program emailed each week on the runners preferred day
Email access for feedback, advice and questions throughout the week
Initial coach-runner discussion to establish current level and goals, previous training and racing history and any other relevant lifestyle factors
Advice on race planning, lifestyle, nutrition, strength & conditioning, cross training.


12 week Training Programs include;
A one-off personalised training plan. This is ideal for athletes looking to prepare for a specific event, or those who require less regular coaching contact.
12 week personal training program emailed to the athlete with detailed explanation of each workout
Initial coach-runner discussion to establish current level and goals, previous training and racing history and any other relevant lifestyle factors
Plan can be adjusted if necessary (IE due to injury/illness or changes in race plans)
