Training Facilities

Algarve

The running training camps are based at the Alfamar Beach and Sport Resort which has its own training facilities including a 6 lane tartan 400m running track with a 6 lane 175m straight, along with hurdles and starting blocks. Field sports are also catered for with 1 High Jump sector, 1 Pole Vault sector, 2 Long / Triple Jump sectors and throwing areas.

There is also a Cross Country course as used in the European Cross Country Championships 2010.

Coaching

Keith Anderson

Keith, a co-founder of Full Potential, began his running career as a means to lose some weight but at the age of 41 he finished 10th in the Malaysia Commonwealth Games Marathon 1998. Keith became British Fell Running champion before he took to the marathon and soon found himself competing across Europe and the USA against the World's top athletes.

Keith has worked with many runners of all abilities, from beginner to International standard and is a regular writer for Runner’s World, Running Fitness, Peak Performance as well as a number of running books and websites. Keith has considerable experience delivering training camps, races and running events.

Richard Coates

Richard’s running career helped him balance working in a stressful environment and bringing up a young family. His objective is to always ensure that all his clients receive the best athlete centred coaching possible. He has successfully coached many athletes of all levels to achieve their potential.

Ben Barwick

Ben is a Director of Full Potential and a running coach. He began his career with the company providing bio-mechanical advice and running coaching support. Within two years he began leading training sessions, writing plans, communicating with runners about their training and helping them develop to become better athletes.

Debbie Anderson

Debbie began her running career when she entered a 10km charity run in Richmond. Having discovered the bug from this event, Debbie immediately leapt in to her next event, The Great North Run, which was followed by her first marathon.

Debbie gave up her PA career in 2005 to become a co-founder of Full Potential. She is a UKA Level 1 Running Coach.

Robin Turner

Robin started as a swimmer and then progressed to triathlon. Within a short space of time he'd qualified for successive Triathlon World Championships, 2003 in New Zealand and 2004 in Madeira. During this time Robin fell in love with orienteering, mountain marathons and adventure races.

This new type of event took him to Chamonix, France where he carried on training and began working for an adventure company throughout the Alps and the Dolomites. In 2008 Robin moved back to the UK and started work as a personal trainer alongside a medical team in a central London rehab clinic. His next step was into coaching triathletes, runners, climbers and skiers.

Comments:  I first contacted Full Potential to book onto the March 2017 running camp. Prior to the camp I received a very detailed welcome pack including an agenda showing all of the sessions and classes etc. Any questions I asked were answered promptly. The camp, and the September camp which I also attended, were very well structured and organised. The coaches and physios shared their knowledge and experiences as well as offering lots of support and advice. In May last year, I was injured again and felt that I was going around in circles so I contacted Richard about coaching and he was happy to help. The distance coaching model works really well, the coaching plan is easy to understand and Richard answers any questions promptly. The structure of the plan and the variety of training runs have really helped me over the last 8 months. Whether it's for running camps or coaching I highly recommend Full Potential.

Comments:  I have been with Full Potential now for about four years and I don’t think I could do without them anymore. The type of personal support and structure you get from signing up and having someone to help with your training is invaluable especially if like me you don’t have the time to joint a conventional running club. I went from being a 2:18 half marathon girl to now having run 4 marathons with their help. On top of that, a nicer bunch of people I’ve yet to meet:-)!!

Comments:  I can't recommend FP highly enough. My relationship started with a wonderful spring training camp in the Algarve in 2017, when the expertise and support of their UK/GB physio got me back on track from injury. From then on, I've had the most rewarding personal coaching which got me to my first marathon seven months later - and my second only seven weeks after that (with FP in Florence)! The structure & discipline, the individual programme, the truly personal support, the training camps and race events - FP can't be bettered. I'm looking forward to continuing with FP and achieving even more running goals in 2018 and beyond.

Comments:  I started training with Coach Coates (I coined the name, well not Coates obviously) at the end of 2014 when I was looking for some structure after running Loch Ness marathon. I had a break early 2015 when my personal circumstances changed; this was also the year that I first went on their Algarve running camp and have been every year since! I went back to Coach Coates when I decided to run Florence marathon with them in the autumn of that year. My training went from strength to strength and I had a fantastic time in Florence both athletically and socially! I continued to be coached by Coates and went on to run Ldn in 2017, with other distances along the way. The last year or so there has been a dip in my performance and I’ve been frustrated by my times decreasing. Coach Coates has been committed to helping me turn things around from looking at my diet, nutrition, blood levels, strength; even my menstrual cycle. He is thorough, easy to talk to, fun, hardworking, motivating and will push you on when you feel like throwing in the towel. Be warned, once you start with Full Potential you’re in it for the long haul. Their other athletes have become friends, including my sister ha ha; it’s hard to imagine not being part of this running club.

Comments:  I wish I had discovered Full Potential Coaching a long time ago! They are a fantastic team of professional run coaches providing a personalised & first class 1:1 coaching. I have been training with my FP coach, Richard Coates for a year & a half, the support I have received from him has been exceptional from start to finish; full marathon training, from race day preparation, to post marathon recovery. Having achieved 2 marathon PBs last year in London and not so long ago Florence Marathon, Richard’s dedicated support for both race days was absolutely awesome! I’m now training towards my 4th marathon with Richard where both training and pace are getting more exciting, as well as challenging me in new motivating ways, which is FP’s overall ethos; Richard ensures that I enjoy my running throughout my training - & I certainly do! Equally, I am looking forward to returning to the FP Algarve Training Camp, it’s superbly organised and designed to “live & train” like an athlete along with a great FP training team & schedule. The camp also opens up a great networking group with the other camp athletes, who support/encourages each other in training/race events throughout the year.
