Nick Gillingham

Summary

Nick Gillingham M.B.E., FIOS is a double Olympic medallist swimmer and has won gold medals at World European and Commonwealth Games Championships over a 13 years period. He is also a World Masters Champion and Record Holder.

Nick was awarded the MBE in 1993 for ‘services to swimming’ and , having retired from full-time competitive sport in 1996, established a sports communications business focusing on sports marketing, development & events SCG Ltd.

With a passion for Performance & Development, Technology & Insight, Mentoring, Teaching and Coaching Analysis Nick, and CG Ltd have recently developed the world's first on-line race analysis and technique analysis system SwimOptimum for swimmers, coaches and sport scientists.

SwimOptimum uses bespoke technology with quantified feedback to identify and rate techniques and race performances identifying areas of development for whole performance improvement. SwimOptimum believes that the technology and methodology will be of significant assistance to all swimmers and is set against world class measures to achieve the very best results.

Nick believes in mentoring opportunities in respect to talented young performers as well as hard to reach young people.

The Nick Gillingham Swim Academy is approved by the National Governing Body for swimming the Amateur Swimming Association and is a member of the Institute of Swimming. Under the umbrella of the Nick Gillingham Swim Academy offer:

Courses: The 'Art of Swimming' courses deliver specifically on 'breaststroke' 'butterfly' and 'starts & turns' across ASA County areas for competitive club swimmers between the ages of 10 years & 16 years of age.

Coaching: One-2-One coaching opportunities to include a full video diary. Coaching takes place in a private anti-wave lane with blocks and flags at a 25m facility or in a fully equipped Endless Pool (Swimmers Flume).

Stroke Technique: Detailed stroke analysis availability utilising the highly praised on-line SwimOptimum tools.

Swim Clinics: Swimming Club Nights and Development Days for registered competitive clubs. These events can be bespoke to the clubs individual requirements or based around our Art of Swimming Courses to include both pool sessions and keynote presentations.

Mentoring: Mentoring opportunities and packages are available for swimmers in respect of their personal development. Please contact us to discuss personal needs and requirements.

Most recently Nick accepted the position of University Chancellor at Walsall Children's University evaluated by the University of Cambridge. He has been a School Governor and was awarded the Degree an Honorary Fellowship from the University of Sunderland for his contribution to sport.
