John Wood

Summary

John has competed at both National and International levels as a swimmer accumulating over 20 years within this sport. He has also been involved in Triathlon for over 5 years and has competed in The European Age Group Championships. He has raced over distances from super-sprint to Ironman.

John has been successfully coaching for over 5 years. He aims to put a smile on the face; enjoying training to some extent is paramount. He also believes learning and education is important so that you understand the methods behind the training and ways to improve. 

In 2014, John's swimmer Siobhan-Marie O'Connor won Gold at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games 200m individual medley in a new British & Commonwealth record. She also won 3 silvers at the same meet, in the 200m freestyle, 4 x 100m freestyle relay and 100m butterfly.

As a running coach, John has successfully worked with shoe manufacturers to enhance their products. His coaching looks at visual technique as well as strength & stability and how to apply them to running itself.

Academic Qualifications:
BEng – Sports Engineering (Bath University) – including modules on Biomechanics

Coaching Qualifications:
British Triathlon Coach (Level 2)
British Swimming Coach (Level 2)
Natural Running Coach
Certificate in Nutritional Advice for Physical Activity

Coaching Experience:
Triathlon coach with Bristol and District Triathlon club, both adults and children.
Swimming coach with Bath University Age Group Squad – including multiple national finalists and winners.
Natural Running seminars given across the south.

Other experience:
Worked with ASICS and Newton Running so has a very strong understanding of running mechanics, the kinetic chains and how shoes are designed to work, what they are designed to do – and also what weaknesses are apparent to causing injury.
