Richard Hobson

Summary

Before Richard’s success as a triathlete he competed in Windsurfing, trialling for the 1988 GB Olympic team. As a triathlete, Richard was part of the Great Britain team between 1988 and 1997. He was part of the Gold Medal European Championship team of 1992 and Gold Medal World’s team the year after.

Between 1991 and 1997, Richard was British Champion 5 times over the middle distance course. In 1995 he was highest placed British finisher in the World Ironman Championships, Hawaii.

Even though Richard’s main focus is TriLiving, he still competes in triathlon events, winning his age group category Ironman 70.3 UK and Lanzarote titles.

Coaching

Richard gained his B.Ed. (Hon) at the college of St. Mark and St. John in 1989 and has been a professional Triathlon coach since 1998, beginning his coaching career at the University of Bath.

He held this post until 2001 when he joined the British Triathlon Association as Assistant National performance coach. This new position was based at the University of Bath. He worked in some capacity with all World Class Performance Athletes. Richard was accountable for the performance centre.

In 2004 he was a Team GB Triathlon coach at the Athens Olympic Games.

Since 2005, Richard has based himself and his family in the Charente Maritime region of France, starting TriLiving and building upon its services. TriLiving is built around Richard’s philosophy that anyone of any age and ability can improve as long as the athlete himself believes this.

During this period he has organised and run annual triathlon training camps, usually based at Club La Santa, Lanzarote.

Also available from TriLiving are 4 week triathlon training plans, tailored to the individual’s aims, ability and time restrictions.

12 week training plans are also available; these aim to give the triathlete sufficient understanding of their training needs that, at the end of the 12 weeks, they can continue planning their own training.
